Rush, the Rams, and the Rev. Al

By now, you are all somewhat aware of the brouhaha involving Rush Limbaugh's attempt to buy a piece of the St. Louis Rams.

In short, after some fabricated "quotes" attributed, falsly, to Limbaugh, the group attempting to buy the Rams dropped Limbaugh like a hot potato.

Then, Mr. Limbaugh did an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal (HERE) in which he has a few dyspeptic comments about Al Sharpton.

It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot.

Now, Al Sharpton has threatened to sue Mr. Limbaugh. (HERE)

The Rev. Al Sharpton is threatening to sue Rush Limbaugh for writing that the civil rights leader played a role in two New York race riots.

Limbaugh wrote that Sharpton played "a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot" and the "1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot" in a Wall Street Journal column published Saturday. Sharpton called both allegations false.

This is from a guy who has repeatedly indulged in the worst sort of "race-baiting".

Mr. Limbaugh's other point, later in the column, had to do with the fabricated "quotes" attributed to him by CNN, MSNBC, and various sports writers. Those alleged "quotes" have been shown to be false.

The silence from CNN, MSNBC, and other sections of the media is deafening.

And the media wonders why MSA (Main Street America) doesn't trust them.

Photographs of Our Honored Dead

Once again, our honored dead are about to become political footballs.

The LA Time reports HERE that "The Pentagon has decided to rescind a long-standing prohibition against press coverage of returning war dead, allowing families to say whether news organizations may photograph the arrivals, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said Thursday."

Anyone who believes that this is not a directive from the President is drinking some really bad KoolAid.

Our dead, as shown by the AP's running tally, are already ammunition for Code Pink, KOS, and other left-wing "workers for peace".

Feh.

It isn't enough that the names and hometowns of our dead are publicized, but now the ugliest side of "If it bleeds, it leads" is making a very ugly return.

I remember what the oh-so-caring media did in the past.

I predict that the media will behave as well now as they did then.

Asshats, one and all.

Well, Where are They?

Lifted from Kim duToit. I would have filed off the serial numbers, but... Here they are.

Why aren’t all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons and asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where are the Dixie Chicks, and Sean Penn in his rescue boat?

Why isn’t the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem?

Where are all the FEMA trucks and trailers?

Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are all the 24/7 lurid news tales of cannibalism and unnecessary drownings?

Why did Iowans evacuate so prematurely; why are they not holed up in deathtrap sports centers?

Where are all the pics of White looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a “vanilla” Iowa, because that’s the way God wants it?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates rural White people?

Why are the Iowans not complaining more and demanding to be saved?

How come in about 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

I think these are all fair questions. Not comfortable questions, no, not at all.

But I think that they are fair questions.

Moonbattery Outside of California

California has more than it's "fair share" of Moonbats. Nancy Pelosi and her announced opponent in the next election, Cindy Sheehan come immediately to mind.

It's true that Moonbats tend to gather together. We even have a few right here in Jawja. Cynthia McKinney (Dem), formerly a Congresscritter from Atlanta comes quickly to mind.

And then there's the Mayor of the bustling metropolis of Macon, GA, an alleged gentleman by the name of Jack Ellis, or maybe that would be Hakim Mansour Ellis...

See the whole story HERE.

It would seem that Hizzoner Mr. Ellis (or would that be His Most Excellent Effendi Ellis?) sent off a little missive to that great humanitarian and lover of liberty His Excellency El Presidente Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

...the mayor of the central Georgia city formally reached out to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez with a declaration of solidarity.

Mayor Jack Ellis said the declaration, sent about two weeks ago by courier, was a message that local leaders can stand together despite disagreements at the highest reaches of government.

Of course, Hizzoner is taking a little heat from his neighbors and friends...

The mayor's decision prompted 20 pages of comments on The Telegraph's online message board before the newspaper decided to take it down. Some called for demonstrations and other ways to signal their distaste for the mayor's move.

Ronald Johnson, a 71-year-old resident of nearby Houston County, called the move "treasonous" and is urging neighbors to boycott the city's businesses until Ellis is rebuked by city officials.

"It's unbelievable that he would do what he's done," said Johnson. "That is so wrong."

It would seem that Fox News follows the lead of AP/REUTERS/CBS/CNN/ABC/NYT in noting Ellis' party affiliation at the end of the article, whereas an affiliation to the major opposition party would be noted in the very first paragraph.

"Responsible" Journalism

The AP, as reported by Yahoo HERE, reports that NBC News says running all the video about the Virginia Tech shooter was "good journalism" and a "very difficult decision".

CHICAGO - The head of NBC News said the decision to air images, writings and video of Virginia Tech shooter Seung-Hui Cho was "good journalism" and the network showed restraint by paring down what would be made public.

NBC News President Steve Capus, who appeared with "NBC Nightly News" anchorman Brian Williams on Tuesday's broadcast of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," acknowledged images that "wallpapered" the media were uncomfortable to view.

"Restraint".

Right. And they bragged about their "restraint" on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

NBC News, in one respect, is very old fashioned indeed.

"If it bleeds, it leads."
