Rush, the Rams, and the Rev. Al

By now, you are all somewhat aware of the brouhaha involving Rush Limbaugh's attempt to buy a piece of the St. Louis Rams.

In short, after some fabricated "quotes" attributed, falsly, to Limbaugh, the group attempting to buy the Rams dropped Limbaugh like a hot potato.

Then, Mr. Limbaugh did an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal (HERE) in which he has a few dyspeptic comments about Al Sharpton.



It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot.



Now, Al Sharpton has threatened to sue Mr. Limbaugh. (HERE)



The Rev. Al Sharpton is threatening to sue Rush Limbaugh for writing that the civil rights leader played a role in two New York race riots.

Limbaugh wrote that Sharpton played "a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot" and the "1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot" in a Wall Street Journal column published Saturday. Sharpton called both allegations false.



This is from a guy who has repeatedly indulged in the worst sort of "race-baiting".

Mr. Limbaugh's other point, later in the column, had to do with the fabricated "quotes" attributed to him by CNN, MSNBC, and various sports writers. Those alleged "quotes" have been shown to be false.

The silence from CNN, MSNBC, and other sections of the media is deafening.

And the media wonders why MSA (Main Street America) doesn't trust them.

The "Google Bomb"

Look, I've been mucking about in the Web for quite a while.

I've been using Google as my preferred search engine for at least five years.

I'm an IT geek - and I use Google every single freakin' day to find good stuff that I need to do my job.

(Side note: Go HERE to find really good FREE stuff. Gizmo rocks! And I found his site through Google.)

Until today, I'd never run across the phrase "Google Bomb".

Now that I have, and I've learned just how long it took Google to rectify the situation, I have to wonder just how badly Google's other results are skewed.

Yes, my trust in Google has been damaged. And Google did the damage itsownself.

Why, exactly, should I trust Google?

"American Patriots"?

The Marine Corps motto means "always faithful," but the union says some reservists working out of a base on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit have been decidedly unfaithful to their fellow Americans by driving import cars and trucks.

So the UAW International will no longer allow members of the 1st Battalion 24th Marines to park at Solidarity House if they are driving foreign cars or displaying pro-President Bush bumper stickers.

"While reservists certainly have the right to drive nonunion made vehicles and display bumper stickers touting the most anti-worker, anti-union president since the 1920s, that doesn't mean they have the right to park in a lot owned by the members of the UAW," the union said in a statement released Friday.

Shocked and disappointed, the Marines are pulling out.

"You either support the Marines or you don't," said Lt. Col. Joe Rutledge


I go with Col. Rutledge.

These Marine Reservists are "citizen soldiers" - and when you call, they come.

They don't care if you drive a "union" car. They don't care if you're from Detroit, or Michigan, California, or Georgia.

If you call for help, they drop what they're doing in the civilian world, and they come.

The United States Marine Corps Reserve doesn't care if you are Republican or Democrat. The USMCR doesn't care if you're male or female. The Marines don't care if you're straight, bent, or mutilated. The "jarheads" don't care if you're "pro-union" or "anti-union".

"Semper Fidelis" means that they are always there.

The United States Marine Corps Reserve has sworn to protect YOU - even if you are a no account loser like the UAW.

Even if you are a miserable little "union" pissant.

I go with Col. Rutledge - you can take your stinkin' little parking lot and put it where the sun don't shine.

Note: I'm not "management". I'm not "rich". I'm not "union". I'm just an American who's "been there", and "done that" - USN 1969-1973, and a proud son-in-law to a "China Marine". And yes, the UAW has once again managed to really get me grumpy.

Grrrr.....

Darwin Award Contender

First, read the story HERE.

Then, think just a little bit.

Young Master Wesley, 17 years of age, can't get out of the way of a large, noisy, train that's coming right down the railroad tracks.

After reading the story, my instant reaction is: Why doesn't CSX (the railroad in question) sue the daylights out of Ms. Whiddon for:

1. Failing to teach her son that trespassing is illegal.
2. Failing to teach her son that choo-choo trains on tracks ALWAYS have the right-of-way.
3. Failing to teach her son that trying conclusions with large moving vehicles is a losing proposition.
4. Causing psycological trauma to the people operating the train, due to 1, 2, and 3 above.

Ms. Whiddon is supposed to be an "Educator" - so why didn't she teach her own son?

On the other hand, her son won't be able to spread his defective genes around, will he?

And yes, I'm an insensitive clot, with a bad attitude and a rotten disposition.

So, go ahead. Sue me.

I'll clean your clock.

Geno's Cheesesteaks Rules!

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia agency has ruled that English-only signs at a famous cheesesteak shop are not discriminatory.

The Commission on Human Relations says in its Wednesday ruling that the sign at Geno's Steaks does not violate the city's Fair Practices Ordinance.

Joe Vento posted the signs at his shop in October 2005. They read "This is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH."'

Critics allege the policy discourages customers of certain backgrounds from eating there. They say the signs discourage non-English speakers from going to the shop.

Vento says he has never refused service to anyone because they couldn't speak English.


Commentary: I guess the "Commission on Human Relations" listened to the various comments that the citizenry made, and decided that "English" is indeed the language of the land...

Memories, PC and Fear

'Way back there, when OWW was a kid, the "Walt Disney Show" used to broadcast some of the Disney movies as specials, running for two hours, including commercials.

One of those marvelous movies was "Song of The South" - great music, and a good story line.

When "Song of The South" was released, in 1946, the critics loved it, and movie-goers went to the local theatre to see it.

Now, with every movie under the sun available on tape/DVD, you can't find a legit copy of "Song of The South".

Why?

One theory that has the ring of truth is that the Disney Corporation looks at "Song of the South" as causing great controversy - if they release it to home video, it will be widely condemned as "racist" or "inappropriate".

That's very sad, from my point of view.

Because I just remember "Song of The South" from a kid's perspective. Great songs, good characters, and a decent story line.

What else do you need, eggs in your beer?

An Unsuitable Cop

Sergeant Andrea Eichhorn of the Casselberry, FL police department has been fired. FoxNews Story HERE.




CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Casselberry authorities say a police sergeant has been fired for suing a family after she slipped and fell while trying to rescue a 1-year-old boy from drowning.

Casselberry Police Chief John Pavlis fired Sergeant Andrea Eichhorn on Tuesday.

Eichhorn has dropped her negligence lawsuit. It claimed there was water on the floor at Joey Cosmillo's home when police arrived. Eichhorn claimed she broke her knee and missed two months of work after she slid on the wet floor.

The boy suffered brain damage and can no longer walk, talk or swallow. He lives in a nursing home and eats and breathes through tubes.

Eichhorn can appeal her firing. Pavlis said the lawsuit brought public ridicule to the agency and damaged its reputation.



This first came to my attention back in October from The Law Dog, whom I believe to have the definitive rant on this story.



To be fair, reports are that Sgt. Eichhorn actually fractured the knee. Of course, reports also say that she continued to work the scene -- it was only "later that day" that she sought treatment for the injury.

The tile-crawling invertebrate hired by Sgt. Eichhorn to represent her in this lawsuit states:

"It's a situation where the Cosmillos have caused these problems, brought them on themselves, then tried to play the victim,"

First Amendment? Or What?

So, Hayden Barnes, this punk kid at Valdosta State (In, of course, Valdosta GA), decides to twist the administration's tail a bit. This is VSU's Administration, in the person of the President, right?

Well, the Prez, Ronald Zaccari, decided to expell young Mr. Barnes as a "clear and present danger to this campus".

The "clear and present danger to this campus" consisted of an entry in a FaceBook.com page, a collage with a reference to a "Zaccari Memorial Parking Garage."

Point #1: College students are always getting outraged over something - and flapping their jaws about it, whatever it is.

Point #2: College presidents are the face of The Administration. Good Heavens, they might even get mocked!

Point #3: His Eminence Zaccari needs to get over himself.

I mean, Mr. Barnes could have referred to the Prez as "The Little Zucchini", right?

Mr. Barnes gets a hearing on 26 November, which means that THIS quarter/semester is completely shot to doll rags.

The Little Zucchini has, with malice aforethought, laid VSU (and the taxpayers of Georgia, which means me) open to a whopping great lawsuit and judgement based on the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States - and that, my friends, really annoys me.

Why shouldn't it? After all, it IS my money, right?

Independence Day

Once again, it's time to remember the Declaration that is the foundation of the United States of America. Upon this foundation our Founders built our Constitution. But the Declaration is the foundation of our house.

You should note that the men that signed the Declaration were part of the "Establishment" of the time - these were sober, thinking, educated "professional" men - part of the ruling class. They had a lot to lose, yet they signed a document that says, "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."



WHEN in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation.

WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness -- That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. FOR taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

FOR suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with Power to legislate for us in all Cases whatsoever.
